Google Pixel 3 XL: First provider accepts pre-orders

Google will not have much news to announce on its Pixel 3 smartphones on Tuesday. This is probably also a mobile service provider so, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL already offers to pre-order – and thereby blabts all the key data.

Only next Tuesday Google will officially introduce the devices, but already a Canadian provider is accepting the pre-orders for Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. On the overview pages shows the mobile operator Freedom not only the official press images of the two smartphones, but also names all technical key data. Accordingly, there will be the devices each with 64 GB or 128 GB of non-expandable memory, variants with more storage space are apparently not provided. The Google smartphones are offered in the colors “Just Black”, “Clearly White” and “Not Pink” – a previously suspected mint green edition there is not at least with this provider.

The advertisements also show the prices valid in Canada. The Pixel 3 costs 64GB $ 999 and 128GB $ 1,129, the Pixel 3 XL 64GB $ 1,129 and 128GB $ 1,259. Converted into euros, the cheapest model would cost 670 euros, the most expensive 840 euros. However, prices are likely to be much higher, a 1: 1 conversion of the US dollar prices is quite conceivable. So the pixel 3 would cost at least 799 euros, the Pixel 3 XL at least 899 euros.

The listed components for the smartphones are already widely known, both smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 845 with up to 2.5 GHz and 4 GB of RAM. For the Pixel 3, Freedom calls a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, the Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch screen with 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. The two Google smartphones are IP68-protected against ingress of water and dust. The battery capacity figures are probably wrong, for the Pixel 3 a large 3,915 mAh battery is specified, while the larger Pixel 3 XL should have a smaller one with 3,430 mAh. Whether they can be charged wirelessly is not clear from the data sheet.

New software feature known

However, Hong Kong-based engineering editor Unwire recently released a fairly detailed review of the Pixel 3 XL, confirming that at least the larger Google smartphone has a Qi coil on board. From a photographed advertising brochure also shows that the pixel models dominate a feature called “Top Shot”. This is a feature for the selfie camera in which apparently taken several photos and the best is automatically selected. The second front camera has a wide-angle lens for group selfies.

Google smartphones will be officially launched next Tuesday, October 9th.
