Early indications for strange quantum deformation in Space

It’s been over 80 years since the phenomenon predicted by giants of quantum mechanics as Werner Heisenberg. After decades of search, an international team of astronomers now presents the first evidence on the phenomenon of “quantum double refraction” around a neutron star.

The dim light of the star, the researchers reported in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, appears to have been altered by interaction with so-called “virtual particles” of quantum physics, which spontaneously appear in absolute vacuum and immediately after returning to nothingness.

The research team used the great European VLT telescope in Chile to examine the visible portion of the spectrum a faint neutron star (remnant of a star that exploded in a supernova), 400 light years from Earth.
